Practice : Shaking & finding the pause
It got me thinking about how often we actually stop to find the pause and how hard it is in a culture that prizes busy and‘doing’ all the time. I know I still struggle with it.
Mostly when my outer life stuff gets loud and chaotic and I have less time to tend to my inner world. But it is something I practice doing every single day. Finding the pause, letting the dust settle.
There's something for me about integration here too and I wrote a little about it over on my instagram today. Because when we're frantically running from one thing to the next everything just blurs into one experience. I likened it to shaking up a snow globe, but instead of waiting for the snow to settle you just keep on shaking it. Thats what never finding the pause feels like in my body. A visceral feeling of my inside paritcles flying around chaotically. I feel like a tangle of sensations, thoughts & emotions but I can't land any of them. It doesn't feel comfortable or easeful- it's like the antithesis of both.
How does it feel for you? Can you locate that feeling of constant motion and not finding a pause in your body? Of how it feels to be on the life treadmill with no stop in sight? And maybe more importantly - can you locate the memory somewhere in your body of how it feels to stop. To let the dust settle.
When can find a pause and a space for integration we give our body the space to do what it does best;
re-organise, re-calibrate, re-regulate.
I thought I'd share a video of me guiding you through some shaking in my garden at the very beginning of our very first lockdown. Honestly this practice is one of my favourites and has got me through a LOT.
If you try it out I invite you to fous on the PAUSE at the end of your shaking. Notice if you can feel all the particles of you'ness that you've shake up gently settling, just like a snowglobe as you end the practice.
And maybe if you can find that settling feeling in your body you can tuck it into your body memory somewhere so you know where to find it when life trys to run away with you ❤️
